Why Vitamin C is the Ultimate Glow-getter!

Forget trying to find the fountain of youth. Vitamin C is a powerhouse skin rejuvenator and antioxidant proven to lighten hyper-pigmentation, enhance skin radiance, and promote collagen production – protecting skin cells from damaging free radicals caused by UV exposure. Best of all, it’s safe for most skin types and can even be used in conjunction with other skincare ingredients, including SPF. Here’s why vitamin C is touted as one of the best anti-aging products on the market!

What is vitamin C?

You guessed it… vitamin C is an antioxidant found in many foods including kale, broccoli, strawberries, and oranges. Before you bath in kale (because we know you’re not going to eat it!), Vitamin C has to be applied topically for your skin to enjoy its full effects.

In short, a serum or mask is the best way to give your skin a vitamin C boost. A serum is a liquid or gel containing high concentrations of skin actives, which can penetrate deeper than other topicals like moisturisers, while a mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and help improve the appearance of your pores. Masks are also an excellent way to help pull out impurities.

How to use Vitamin C for your skin

Many serums and masks on the market contain vitamin C, but for this antioxidant to really pack a punch, it has to be combined with other complementary ingredients. Our face serums contain high vitamin C derived from natural oils including Rosehip Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Baobab Seed Oil, Carrot Seed Oil, and Sweet Almond Oil – all of which are carefully blended into a serum very easily utilised by the body and ideal for skincare.

Our face masks include Baobab Powder Extract as a core ingredient, which is fantastically restorative, collagen boosting, and anti-ageing. Baobab pulp – from the Baobab tree native to certain regions of Africa, Arabia, Australia, and Madagascar – is very rich in Vitamin C, helping to tighten and tone skin, brighten and lift your complexion, reduce wrinkles and restore radiance.  The high content of vitamin C in Baobab is known to boost collagen production, an all-important consideration in any great skincare product!

Vitamin C is effective in:

  • Hydrating skin:  decreases trans-epidermal water loss, allowing your skin to better retain moisture.
  • Brightening skin: can help fade pigmentation and smooth the skin’s surface to reduce dullness.
  • Reducing redness: is effective in treating inflammatory skin conditions and minimising redness.
  • Fading hyperpigmentation: can help lighten sunspots, age spots, acne scars, and melasma.
  • Reducing under-eye circles: can help alleviate discoloration associated with dark circles under your eyes.
  • Promoting collagen production: is known for boosting collagen – a naturally occurring protein that depletes over time, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.
  • Protecting against sun damage: is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants protect healthy skin cells by giving these free radicals an electron, rendering them harmless.

How to apply serums and masks

Our serums with vitamin C can be typically applied once or twice per day. Apply after cleansing and before applying moisturiser and sunscreen for maximum penetration of the skin barrier. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen after moisturising for the two products to work well together to combat UV exposure. As a skin mask, combine 1 teaspoon of Restorative Face Mask Powder with 1 teaspoon of water and mix to form a thick paste. Smooth onto clean skin and leave for 10 minutes. Wash off using gentle circular strokes to lightly exfoliate skin. Wash with warm water and repeat 2-3 times a week. Once you add vitamin C to your skincare regimen, you may start seeing noticeable improvements in three to six weeks.
