My journey to natural skincare has been… adventurous. From the teenage acne and that wonderful course of Accutane, to the early 20’s hormonal I-eat-too-much-junk acne. It’s been a rollercoaster high where my skin had no blemish in sight, to a torturous low where I hid my face with layers and layers of makeup (yikes!).
My Journey to Natural Skincare
Growing up I never really gave much thought to my skin and my skincare routine – even though I heard everyday how I “need to take care of your skin”, especially because of my red hair (The mutation of the MC1R gene gives redheads their red hair, and unfortunately also causes redheads to have thinner skin). I used to grab the second-best product I saw, and should I add – the cheapest as well? Anything could go as a face wash. I never really gave much thought to ingredients, heck I didn’t even use the correct products for my skin type!
Fast forward to my early 20’s. I started to become more conscious about what products I was using, but still not knowing whether they were good for my skin or not. As long as the product smelled good! Sometimes I’d even grab my mom’s stuff – sorry Mom! As my skin started to show finer lines, I read hundreds of posts about this eye cream and that firming gel. And boy, did that take me to spending hours in Dis-chem or Clicks, looking at their bajillion products.
Now, it’s been a full year (well almost) of using Cherish Beauty by Nature. Let me tell you, the transition was not easy, but so WORTH IT! As I gradually started reading up about natural skincare I realised that it was now or never to make the switch, and I did! (Even got the boyfriend and sister hooked on the products too). I say it was not easy because the moment I stopped using the chemically-laden eye creams and face washes my skin HATED me!
Natural Love from Cherish Beauty
Luckily with a little natural love from Cherish Beauty’s Cleaning Oil and Face Serum my skin could finally make that transition to heal. The process wasn’t overnight, oh no, I had to go through a phase known as skin detoxing. Which basically means your skin will purge EVERYTHING that those off-the-counter washes would hide. I had it all, the sensitive skin, the breakout, the dryness and then the excessive oil production at the very beginning of my journey to natural skincare. This was my skins’ way of getting rid of the nasties before showing off that glowy, plump and soft skin.
But why bother to make the transition to Natural Skincare?
Now, you are probably wondering why did you make the transition? Well, I actually watched a documentary about the chemicals that go into beauty products (I am a makeup junkie as well) and all the testing they do on animals *insert sobbing emoji*. Then, I went into a research spiral, discovering brands who say they are cruelty free, but in reality aren’t. In addition, I was tired of spending hours and hours looking at the back of every face wash and cream, not knowing what type of ingredients I was putting on my face. But with Cherish Beauty I could read the ingredient list and actually UNDERSTAND what I am applying on my skin.
As I researched more about clean beauty and skincare products, I discovered the MANY benefits of using natural products, and of course supporting local brands. With product ranges such as Cherish beauty, I could now spoil my skin with the love it deserved! Not only do the natural skincare products smell good, like walking into a spa, but they also contain ingredients that are nutrient-rich (because they are derived from the natural world around us), better for your future and the community around you (high quality ingredients & a greener platform) and lastly, they are eco-friendly, chemical free and Cruelty-free (free from testing on animals, YAY!).
Use the products that are right for your skin type
Remember when I told you about my super awesome mutation? Yeah, now that I’ve taken my natural skincare journey I can give my skin the products it needs! These products protect my skin from the damaging sun, everyday pollution and the blue light from my PC and cell phone. And before you think did this really work? YES! I have seen a TREMENDOUS change in my skin and just my overall confidence. I still get the odd pimple on and off, but the overall appearance of my skin is everything I wished for back then when I stood in those aisles.
Switching to natural skincare has also helped me be more sustainable as well. A 100ml Cherish Beauty cleanser can last four to five months – that is almost half a year! That means I am saving three to four times more money!
If you have read this far, I would like to leave you with one tip; always listen to your skin. Show it the love and care it (and you) deserves. Take the time out of each day to nurture it. It is a commitment, and it makes the world of difference.
