The Benefits of Using Natural Face Serums
Whilst a basic skincare routine consists of a cleanser, toner and moisturiser, there's actually an extra step which could change your routine for the better! Designed to be applied after your toner and before your moisturiser, a Face Serum is used to target even the most specific skin care concerns, allowing you to truly tailor your routine to suit your needs. With formulas for Dry, Combination, Oily and Mature skin types, there’s a Face Serum for everyone.
What are Face Serums?
Face Serums are lightweight moisturizers that contain concentrated amounts of nourishing ingredients. Face Serums often contain multiple ingredients to target different skin concerns at once.
Typically, Face Serums are a mixture of high quality oils and extracts that have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hydrating properties.
Deciding which serum is right for you really comes down to your own skin needs.
How to use a Face Serum
Face Serums are best applied to clean skin, and can be applied both morning and night, depending on your needs. When following a natural skincare routine, your Face Serum should be applied after cleaning your face with a Cleansing Oil, and after using a toner like Cherish Beauty Soothing Toner.
Face Serums are very helpful for improving lipid barrier function, decreasing dryness, and adding a bit of additional moisturizer to the face post-cleanse.
Because they are so nourishing, a little goes a long way – start with only 3 drops, and work your way up to 8 drops or so, as your skin absorbs the nourishing serum. After applying, allow ten minutes for the Face Serum to fully absorb.
Before starting to use a new product, always do a patch test on your skin to see how it reacts before applying it to your entire face. If you are allergic to a specific food ingredient (e.g. nuts; soy), please do not apply it to your skin.
Benefits of natural Face Serums
The real beauty of natural Face Serums is that their ingredients are far more concentrated than what you'd find in a standard moisturiser, so they work to supercharge your skincare routine by delivering a potent amount of antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids.
Once you've identified your primary skincare concerns, such as dryness, scarring or adult acne, you can use a Face Serum to target them and improve the texture and appearance of your skin.
What about using Face Serums for Oily or Dry Skin?
Dry skin occurs when our skin lacks appropriate oil, resulting in rough, dry or flaky skin. Applying nourishing oils topically helps restore the lipid barrier, which reduces water loss, inhibits oxidative damage, and improves antimicrobial function on the surface of the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
If your skin is oily, applying a carefully designed Face Serum which specifically targets oily skin will help to regulate sebum production and re-balance the skin’s natural lipid barrier, restoring balance to your skin and helping normalise oil production.
Other Important Considerations
Whilst it’s super important to ensure your skincare is 100% natural and made with only the best quality ingredients, it’s also worth keeping in mind that the health of your skin is directly impacted by diet, hydration, pollution and social habits, such as smoking and drinking alcohol.
As mentioned in my previous blog, Is Your Skin Dehydrated?, Keeping your skin properly hydrated can help reduce signs of ageing, improve the overall appearance of your skin, help combat acne and breakouts and help with detoxification processes.
By using a Natural Face Serum, you will be are able to intensify the strength of your beauty regimen to provide a more comprehensive approach to anti-ageing and hydration. Our Serums are formulated with a high concentration of active ingredients so that a few drops are sufficient to cover the entire face, helping the product go a really long way.
